Usually overused as a description, “instant classic” is an apt name for these steam bent single ply, solid shell snare drums. Johnny teamed up with Drum Workshop in the mid 1990s to reintroduce the musical world to a modern version of the single ply drum shell. In the past, single ply shells usually were out of round as the techniques for making the shell stay round had not yet been perfected. This wing of the museum features the DW Craviotto team’s commitment to bringing the past into the modern times, and in doing so, created some of the most desirable and collectable drums of all time. While Johnny and DW parted ways in 2004, their collaboration’s results speak for themselves.
